Child born with 8 limbs undergoes surgery

No, this isn't photoshopped- this is Lakshmi, a young girl from Bihar, India who was born with four arms and four legs. Currently Lakshmi is undergoing an operation to have her extra limbs removed, a controversial issue considering many believe that the girl is the reincarnation of a Hindu goddess. Lakshmi was born with a "parasitic twin." If her twin had lived, the two children would have been connected at the pelvis. The young child's surgery tends to be complicated, as she was also born with "four kidneys, entangled nerves, two stomach cavities and two chest cavities." However, it is reported she is responding well to the surgery and if everything goes according to plan, Lakshmi should live a longer, healthier life.
